After evaluating several sites, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs chose a 28-acre North Jacksonville site for an outpatient clinic.
The 164,054-square-foot clinic will be developed at northwest Hyatt Road and Max Leggett Parkway.
It will replace the Jacksonville VA Southpoint clinic at 6900 Southpoint Drive N. and the Jacksonville VA University clinic at 3901 Memorial Health Plaza in Southside.
The Jacksonville 1 VA Clinic at 1536 N. Jefferson St. in Springfield will remain open. That clinic offers a wider range of services including dental, surgical, psychiatric, nursing, ancillary services, chronic illness treatment and urgent care.
The North Jacksonville clinic will provide primary care, mental health, expand on-site radiology, optometry and audiology services. Multispecialty rooms in the clinic will offer women’s health and telehealth along with other specialties.
It also will include a 30-bed domiciliary residential care space. The clinic and domiciliary will be connected via a covered walkway.
Duval Owens Signature LLP owns the 49.1-acre parcel where the clinic will be built.
The VA Choice and Quality Employment Act of 2017 authorized construction of a new clinic. According to the legislation signed by President Donald Trump, the cost will not exceed $18,623,000.
“Moving forward with this clinic is a top priority for our organization, as Jacksonville is our fastest growing market,” North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System Director Thomas Wisnieski said in a news release.
The VA also appeared to consider a 28-acre site at southwest Egrets Nest Drive and Citicards Way in Flagler Center on the Southside, according to JEA service availability requests.
VA spokeswoman Glenda Powell said in February that “VA will conduct both technical and price evaluations to determine which proposal provides the best value to the government.”
