TEDxJacksonville will take place Oct. 23 at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts, resuming after the 2020 conference was postponed because of COVID-19.

Speaker and musical performer applications are open through June 30, the news release said.

TEDx is an independently, locally organized TED event. TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of brief talks about various topics.

“We receive incredible applications every year — and we know the world is ready for the next big ideas,” said Sabeen Perwaiz, the lead organizer and licensee for TEDxJacksonville, in a news release.

Perwaiz became the official licensee for TEDxJacksonville in 2020, succeeding Doug Coleman. She has volunteered with the organization since its founding. She serves as executive director for the Florida Nonprofit Alliance.

This will be the ninth conference since it started as TEDxRiversideAvondale in 2012.

The last conference to take place was in October 2019 at The Florida Theatre. The theme was “POP.”
