TD Bank is renovating two branches, including the former Synovus Bank office on the Downtown Southbank.

The city is reviewing a permit application for TD Bank to renovate the former Synovus branch building, with drive-thru lanes, at 1326 Prudential Drive at an estimated $400,000.

The city issued permits July 28 for Atlas Sign Holdings Inc. to put up six signs for TD, including the drive-thru and ATM, at a cost of $24,170.

TD Bank closed its branch in the nearby former Stein Mart building at 1200 Riverplace Blvd. in April.

The city also is reviewing a permit to renovate the TD Bank branch at its Jacksonville leadership offices building at 9715 Gate Parkway N. in Deerwood Park North.

The estimated $475,000 project involves 4,476 square feet of space.

Bergmann Architects Engineers Planners is the architect for both projects.

TD Bank issued a statement July 29 by email that the 1200 Riverplace office closed April 23 as a part of TD Bank’s regular evaluation of its locations.

“We can confirm our Gate Parkway store will be renovated in fall 2021, and we look forward to sharing additional details on new store locations as we continue our commitment to grow in Jacksonville,” said the email.

The company did not comment specifically on the former Synovus location, referring to the statement about TD Bank’s commitment to grow.

TD Bank announced July 14 that it will bring more than 250 jobs to Northeast Florida over two years, including 200 customer service and operations positions and the rest among branches.

TD Bank said it employs about 440 people in Jacksonville and more than 2,300 across the state.

The New Jersey-based financial institution leased 30,031 square feet of office space for the new operations center on the third floor in Deerwood North at 4600 Touchton Road E. and will renovate the space over the next year.

The city is reviewing a building permit application for TD Bank’s “Jacksonville Contact Center.” Plans show work on part of the first and on the full third floor at a construction cost of $4.8 million.

The space will be near TD’s local 24,490 square feet of Gate Parkway leadership offices and retail office. That branch accounts for 7,260 square feet.

TD Bank said it will bring new retail branches to the area, creating the additional jobs. It currently operates 10 stores in North Florida and a total of 153 statewide.

“Florida is experiencing growth unlike any other state in the country and the addition of our new operations center and the enhancements we’re making to our store network are investments in the Florida Market for years to come,” said Nick Miceli, TD Bank Regional President, Florida Metro, in a news release.

“We believe the state’s growth could support up to 30 new retail locations over the next five years. We look forward to continuing our commitment in the area as a growth company.”

TD Bank says it is one of the 10 largest banks in the U.S. It is headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

It is a member of TD Bank Group and a subsidiary of The Toronto-Dominion Bank of Toronto, Canada, a top 10 financial services company in North America.
