The city issued a permit Dec. 9 for Walgreens to add a Village Medical primary-care clinic to its North Jacksonville pharmacy at 866 Dunn Ave. at a cost of $848,557.
Horizon Retail Construction of Sturtevant, Wisconsin, is the contractor for the 3,291-square-foot addition.
It is one of five clinics planned by the pharmacy chain in Jacksonville and the fourth permitted since Oct. 26.
Company spokesperson Jessica Masuga said June 10 that renovations of the Jacksonville stores will be completed in 2022.
The city issued permits for Walgreens to add Village Medical clinics to its pharmacy at 7224 Merrill Road in Arlington and to two Westside stores at 7546 103rd St. and 654 Cassat Ave.
The city also is reviewing a permit application for a $625,000 build-out for a clinic at 5340 Soutel Drive in Northwest Jacksonville.
The five Jacksonville clinics are part of Walgreens’ effort to open 600 or more Village Medical centers by 2025 and 400 more by 2027.
The Jacksonville investment tops $3.3 million.
Plans show that the Walgreens stores will be remodeled to accommodate a vestibule, patient waiting area, exam rooms and support space.
Walgreens will continue using the remaining existing pharmacy and retail space.
Walgreens said in July the clinics were ideal for patients with chronic conditions who need multiple daily prescriptions.
It said the clinics accept a wide range of health insurance options and offer in-person and virtual appointments.
