Memorial Hospital opened the first of three electrophysiology labs and an upgraded catheterization lab March 3 as part of a $10.5 million investment.
The hospital plans to upgrade another cath lab and two EP labs as part of the project in the hospital at 3625 University Blvd. S.
Hospital officials celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the labs March 3.
“Our new EP Lab and upgraded Cath Lab enhances our ability to continue to provide state-of-the-art care for patients with all types of cardiac arrhythmias, as well as provide non-operative solutions for patients with structural heart disease,” Memorial Hospital Chief Medical Officer Dr. Albert E. Holt, IV said in a news release.
“Our EP physicians use this leading-edge technology known as catheter ablation to treat atrial fibrillation, the most common kind of cardiac arrhythmia, to restore patients’ quality of life and eliminate the disabling symptoms caused by this arrhythmia.”
The electrophysiology lab provides space for atrial fibrillation ablation, ceiling-mounted equipment to allow easy patient access and display monitors for “detailed cardiac imagery,” the news release said.
The upgraded cath lab has a new imaging system, display monitors and space for coronary and peripheral procedures.
Memorial also has a $25 million expansion underway that will include additional operating rooms, surgery recovery areas, staff locker rooms and lounge.
The expansion is expected to be completed by October.
