A night with the Icemen, happy hour at Epping Forest, Jax Bar Dog Day, a Downtown tour and pickleball are on the agenda.

The Jacksonville Bar Association and Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association have an evening of professional ice hockey at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena scheduled March 17 when the Jacksonville Icemen play the Orlando Solar Bears on St. Patrick’s Day.

JWLA President Cyndy Trimmer, a JBA board member, will host the event.

The first 40 members who register for “Luck of the Icemen” will receive a free ticket and a $10 credit for concessions. A complimentary happy hour begins at 6 p.m. featuring green beer from Wicked Barley Brewing.

The cost is $30 for members who aren’t among the first 40 to register and for nonmembers.

The JBA will have happy hour and an evening on the river 5:30-7 p.m. April 1 at Epping Forest Yacht Club, hosted by board member Shannon Schott.

The first 25 members who register will receive two complimentary drinks and appetizers. Guest tickets are available for $20.

Board member Jamie Karpman is hosting Jax Bar Dog Day at Dogwood Park at 10 a.m. April 5.

Light refreshments will be served until 11 a.m. in the special events area, then members and their dogs can use the park for the rest of the day.

A three-hour, two-wheeled tour of Downtown will begin at 8:45 a.m. April 10, hosted by JBA board member Asghar Syed.

Led by e2ride Bike Tours, the ride begins at the Duval County Courthouse. It is free for the first 25 members who register; guests may join the tour for $35.

Because of COVID-19, riders must provide their own bicycles.

Board member Christian George will host “Tax Day Happy Hour” 5:30-7 p.m. April 15 at Mellow Mushroom in Avondale.

The first 25 members who register will receive two complimentary drinks and JBA will provide appetizers.

The event is limited to 50 attendees.

Board member Blane McCarthy and Jax Pickleball Store owner Andy Zarka will host an introductory pickleball class 2-5 p.m. April 25th at McCarthy’s home in Mandarin.

The free event is limited to 16 participants who each will receive a pickleball starter kit that includes a paddle, ball and bag.

Nominations for JBA board open March 18

The president-elect and six members of the board of governors will be elected May 5 at the Jacksonville Bar Association’s annual meeting.

Nominations may be submitted to the JBA office beginning at 9 a.m. March 18 and must be delivered by 5 p.m. March 25, along with a recent digital color photograph.

The nomination form is available at jaxbar.org. Membership dues must be current to seek office or to vote in the election.

Online voting will open April 14 and end at noon May 4.

Brunell joins Boyd & Jenerette

Joanna Brunell joined Boyd & Jenerette in Jacksonville to focus on appellate practice.

Before joining the firm, Brunell was an appellate attorney for the Florida Guardian ad Litem Program, representing the interests of children in dependency, termination of parental rights, adoption and related matters.

Brunell is a 2015 graduate of the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where she was a teaching assistant for legal writing and appellate advocacy.

Elisabeth Avilla joined Hall Booth Smith in Jacksonville.

She concentrates her practice on defending clients in medical malpractice claims, liability lawsuits, health care and regulatory matters.

Avilla received her J.D. from Florida State University College of Law. She was executive editor of the FSU Law Review.
