Mayo Clinic named AJ Dunn as chief administrative officer for Mayo Clinic in Florida, which operates its campus and facilities in Jacksonville.

Dunn begins the position Dec. 1. He succeeds Christina Zorn, who begins her role as chief administrative officer for Rochester, Minnesota-based Mayo Clinic on Dec. 1.

As Mayo Clinic in Florida’s CAO, Dunn will oversee administrative functions and hospital budgets.

Dunn will be the administrative partner to Dr. Kent Thielen, CEO of Mayo Clinic in Florida.

“AJ is a truly tremendous, innovative leader with a strong track record of contributions to our organization,” Thielen said in a Nov. 29 news release.

“Over nearly two decades at Mayo Clinic in Florida, he has helped advance and transform the organization and I look forward to partnering with AJ as we lead Mayo Clinic in Florida together and advance the future of health care,” he said.

Zorn said in the release that Dunn has demonstrated success across numerous roles.

She said Dunn’s “commitment to Mayo Clinic’s values make him an exceptional partner with Kent to lead Mayo Clinic in Florida, and I look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish.”

Dunn chairs the hospital’s advanced care at home program that is part of Mayo Clinic’s Center for Digital Health. The program allows patients to receive doctor’s care via home computer. The program’s goal is to cut medical costs while providing the same services that would ordinarily be delivered at the hospital.

Dunn joined Mayo in 2002. Before working with the care at home program he was associate administrator for hospital operations and medicine, and operations administrator for Medicine, Hospital Operations, Surgery and Individualized Medicine.

Dunn is a University of Florida graduate with a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy and master’s degree in health care administration. He is a regent-at-large for the American College of Healthcare Executives and is on the board of directors for the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida.
