The city issued a permit Oct. 12 for construction of a five-story SpringHill Suites by Marriott at 9325 Baymeadows Road in Baymeadows Park.
Tim Young Construction Inc. of Jacksonville is the contractor for the $6 million project on 5.8 acres east of Interstate 95.
The 120-unit, almost 73,000-square-foot hotel will include a pool.
Joyce Development Group LLC is developing Baymeadows Park at the site of the former Baymeadows Golf Club.
It includes a Starbucks Coffee Co. shop; First Watch, The Daytime Cafe; and other restaurant and retail space.
Starbucks and First Watch will anchor the ends of the project.
Three SpringHill Suites operate along Southside Boulevard, near Jacksonville International Airport and in Fernandina Beach.
