The city issued a permit Sept. 29 for UF Health to build a free-standing emergency room at 888 Lane Ave. S. at a cost of $6 million.

The West Jacksonville emergency room will be open 24 hours a day and have 10 exam rooms, a trauma room and imaging.

Charles Perry Partners Inc. is the project contractor. E4H Environments for Health Architecture is the architect.

The former Ameris Bank branch will be demolished to make way for the 11,716-square-foot free-standing emergency department. CLA Construction & Consulting will complete the demolition at a cost of $15,000, according to permits.

Completion is expected in 2022.

UF Health is planning two other free-standing ERs, at 11251 Lamb Tail Lane in Baymeadows and at 6765 Dunn Ave. in Northwest Jacksonville.

UF Health operates two free-standing ERs in Gainesville and one in The Villages.
