The judicial vacancy application and appointment process is the focus at “Pathways to the Bench” on April 28.

The event, sponsored by the Gunster law firm, begins with a reception at 5:15 p.m. followed by the one-hour program at 6 p.m. at the Marriott Jacksonville Downtown, formerly the Omni Jacksonville hotel.

The Jacksonville Bar Association, in partnership with the Jacksonville Lawyers Chapter of The Federalist Society, invites members to learn about how to become a judge by applying and appearing before the 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.

Joe Jacquot, a Gunster shareholder and former general counsel to Gov. Ron DeSantis, will moderate the panel.

Panelists are Ray Treadwell, the governor’s chief deputy general counsel; Robert Harris, chair of the 4th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission; and Circuit Judge London Kite, who will share her experience applying and being interviewed in Jacksonville and then Tallahassee for a judicial vacancy.

DeSantis appointed Kite to the Duval County Court in 2020 and to the 4th Judicial Circuit in 2021.

Admission is free for JBA members and members of The Federalist Society. Visit jaxbar.org/judicialappointments to register.
