Known for its latticework facade, the former bank building at University Boulevard and the Arlington Expressway is under contract for redevelopment as a car wash.
JEA is reviewing a service availability request for a proposed Take 5 Car Wash, with a 125-foot tunnel, on the site at 930 University Blvd. N.
Carla Bahri, a sales agent, with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network Realty is the listing agent.
She said Take 5 intends to close on the property purchase by January or February 2023 and build an automated car wash.
The 5,068-square-foot bank was built in 1961 on 1.65 acres. Online information says it is listed for $1.8 million and is under contract.
The site is across University Boulevard from College Park, the former Town & Country Shopping Center that is being remodeled. A Winn-Dixie grocery store is reopening there.
The online description of the former bank says the site is “minutes from the Mathews Bridge to Downtown Jacksonville. Perfect for a retail shopping strip with national-brand tenants at a high visibility corner.”
“This beautiful, precast concrete building with its unique features can be redeveloped to a retail shopping center, medical, dental, convenient store or any other uses including a 60’ high multifamily building with retail/parking on first floor,” it says.
It is zoned Commercial Neighborhood.
TDC JAX LLC, an investor group, bought the property for $650,000 on March 4, 2021, from Ameris Bank, the latest in a line of bank ownership and operation, including Citizens Federal Savings & Loan, Gordon Bank, and Atlantic Coast Bank.
Take 5 Car Wash operates in 20 states, including in Florida, primarily on the West Coast and in Gainesville and Lake City. It does not have Northeast Florida locations,
