Three months after the city issued a permit for Scramblers to build-out in Deerwood Village Mall, it is reviewing one for the chain to demolish and remodel the interior for the restaurant in Lakewood South at an estimated project cost of $642,000.
The Lakewood space is 3,904 square feet at 1500 University Blvd. W. Sleiman Enterprises is the landlord.
A Sleiman Enterprises site plan shows Scramblers restaurant will lease 4,240 square feet in the former Starbucks and bagel shop space in the front corner of the property at University and San Jose boulevards.
Scramblers Director of Franchising Kelly Buerk said in June the Toledo, Ohio-based company is committed to open five Jacksonville-area restaurants.
The breakfast and lunch restaurant will open its first two Jacksonville locations at 9940 Old Baymeadows Road in Deerwood Village Mall and in Lakewood South. The restaurants are corporate-owned.
Scramblersrestaurants.com says the Deerwood location will open by year-end and the Lakewood restaurant will open in early 2023.
One online reference says Scramblers will open Dec. 20 in Deerwood.
“Florida is a dynamite area for a Scramblers,” Buerk said.
Colliers Senior Associate Jason K. Hinson represents Scramblers in the area.
He said after the first two open, Scramblers will look for more sites, including in Duval and St. Johns counties.
Scramblers has 26 locations in Ohio and Michigan. It is franchising to expand.
It operates 6:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. daily. The menu includes breakfast and lunch, including omelets, egg dishes, pancakes, sandwiches, salads and more.
The city issued a permit Aug. 30 for Skyline Construction Inc. to renovate a 3,318-square-foot space at 9940 Old Baymeadows Road for Scramblers at a cost of $550,414.
