The city calculated no mobility fee for conversion of the former Kmart store in Normandy Village for use by U-Haul.
The 95,962-square-foot Kmart is being expanded by 9,203 square feet to create a 105,165-square-foot U-Haul Moving & Storage center at 1501 Normandy Village Parkway.
AREC 34 LLC of Phoenix is the property owner of the 8.68-acre site at Interstate 295 and Normandy Boulevard.
U-Haul Co. of Florida bought the site in December 2018 for almost $3.72 million and conveyed it in January 2019 to AREC.
It was built in 1993. Sears Holdings Corp. closed the store, which was the last Kmart store in Jacksonville, in mid-April 2017.
The city has been issuing permits for the conversion construction.
Walmart Inc. intends to remodel the sales area and make other improvements to its store at 6767 103rd St. at an estimated cost of $1.5 million and a general remodel of its 13490 Beach Blvd. store at an estimated $750,000.
The city is reviewing building-permit applications.
The city issued a permit Jan. 21 for a 12,427-square-foot addition to O’Reilly Auto Parts at 4124 Emerson St.
Ron Sparks Inc. of Forney, Texas, is the contractor for the $1.6 million project.
