Work began June 6 on construction of the new V Pizza & Tap Garden in Fleming Island.

The site is at 4477 U.S. 17 just south of The Church of Eleven22 and 1 mile north of County Road 220.

When it opens in October, the restaurant and bar will move from its leased location at 1605 County Road 220, No. 145, on Fleming Island.

Existing staff will move to the new restaurant, said co-owner Paul Scott.

It will retain the V Pizza & Tap Garden name. Each location has a separate bar name to differentiate itself from other V Pizzas.

Scott said it will cost $3 million to construct the 6,000-square-foot building. Urban Partners is the contractor.

The new restaurant will feature a playground and an indoor and outdoor covered bar area. It will have more than 100 beers with 50 or more taps.

“This is one is going to have a sort of an island feel. It will be a flagship location, the prettiest one we have got,” Scott said.

V Pizza began in 2014 in San Marco and specializes in wood-fired pizzas and craft cocktails. Designs have a large family dining room in one section of the new building and a bar area on the other. Customers can dine in either section.

There are seven V Pizza locations in Northeast Florida with one in St. Simons Island, Georgia, and two North Carolina locations in Cary and Raleigh. Expansion plans call for new locations in St. Augustine and Orlando.
