Rockler Woodworking and Hardware, a Minnesota-based retailer of products, services and training for woodworkers and do-it-yourselfers, intends to open in the former Pier 1 Imports store in St. Johns Town Center.

Rockler Woodworking says on rockler.com that it will be opening soon at 4643 River City Drive, Suite 101.

It will feature Rockler innovations (new products), a “huge lumber outlet,” top power tool brands, classes and more.

The city is reviewing a permit application for VSI Construction & Facility Services of Brookland Park, Minnesota, to improve 10,807 square feet at a cost of $498,624.

The space formerly was Pier 1 and is next to Ashley HomeStore. Furniture Source leased it before the company opened a larger space at The Avenues mall.

Rockler Companies Inc. of Medina, Minnesota, near Minneapolis is the business owner.

Core States Group of Minneapolis is the architect.

Rockler Woodworking has 42 stores in 23 states, its website shows. It also has independent resellers.

Its three Florida stores are listed as Altamonte Springs, Brandon and Jacksonville.

The site says Norton Rockler started the Minnesota Woodworkers Supply Co. in 1954 in north Minneapolis as a small mail-order business. It aspired to become woodworkers’ go-to resource for everything they need to complete their projects.

“Since then, we’ve grown into an industry-leading woodworking and hardware source with a nationwide chain of stores and international reach through our catalogs and website,” the site says.

It says Rockler constantly works “to bring the industry’s most innovative products, thinking and education to our stores and website.”

The site says Rocker remains a family-owned business that works with many of the vendors whose products it carried for decades.

It posted two job listings for Jacksonville that include full-time senior sales associate at $16 an hour and part-time retail associate at $15.
