Jacksonville City Council voted 17-1 on June 28 to approve a grant capped at $750,000 for Allegis Group Inc. to add up to 500 jobs.

Allegis, a Hanover, Maryland-based workforce services company, says it will create the jobs in Jacksonville at an average wage of $53,000 by Dec. 31, 2026.

Council member Rory Diamond was the lone “no” vote on the bill, Ordinance 2022-0449. There was no discussion before the vote.

Council Vice President Terrance Freeman was absent for the vote.

Allegis estimates it will make a $1.3 million capital investment into real estate improvements, IT equipment, furniture and fixtures, according to a May 20 city project summary.

“Since Allegis Group’s founding, we have been passionate about creating opportunity – for our clients, our candidates and for our teams. We are grateful for our partnership with the city of Jacksonville and for the opportunity to advance our company’s core purpose,” said Andy Hilger, Allegis Group president, in a news release issued June 29 by JAX Chamber.

The company leases space in Capital Plaza at Deerwood Park at 10401 Deerwood Park Blvd. in South Jacksonville. Industry sources say it uses 100,000 square feet of space there.

The city summary said Allegis is considering other U.S. locations for the expansion, making the Jacksonville incentives a material factor in its decision.

The legislation authorizes an economic development agreement between the city and Allegis for the taxpayer incentive of $1,500 per job.

The bill waives the city’s Public Investment Policy because it does not include the requested Targeted Industry Employment Grant.

The grant would be paid in 25% annual increments, or $375 per job, over four years after the city verifies the wages and jobs were created.

Allegis Group is an international recruitment company. The city said the company, founded in 1983, is a global leader in talent solutions with $14.5 billion in annual revenue.

Its network of specialized companies sells services to clients and industries.

A previous Jacksonville job description said Allegis Group serves “virtually every major industry, and we’ve placed exceptional people in hundreds of thousands of roles and positions.”

Allegis began with the founding of Aerotek, a contract employment and consulting company.

Its dozen brands include Aerotek; TEKsystems; Aston Carter; Allegis Global Solutions; Major, Lindsey & Africa; Allegis Partners; MarketSource; and Getting Hired.

Its website is AllegisGroup.com.

Aerotek operates an office in Jacksonville at 7077 Bonneval Road, Suite 500, in Liberty Center in the Southpoint area.

Allegis Global Solutions has a Jacksonville address on the second floor at 10748 Deerwood Park Blvd.
