The highly ranked St. Johns County school system is opening a K-8 school in the Shearwater community.

The school will be built on 26 acres between County Road 210 and County Road 16A.

The school should be ready for the 2023-24 academic year, according to a news release from Freehold Communities, the developer of Shearwater.

The school is planned to ease overcrowding at the nearby Freedom Crossing Academy, Timberlin Creek Elementary School and Switzerland Point Middle School.

In November, the St. Johns County School District was ranked No. 1 in the state with a 94% graduation rate and an average 1230 SAT score.
