The city approved a permit March 9 for Sauer Inc. to build-out the Lakeside Dental Surgery Center in Exchange South at a cost of $3 million.

Sauer will build-out 7,825 square feet in Suite 515 at 9143 Philips Highway.

Andrew Weaver is president of Lakeside Dental Management. His brother, Dr. Patrick Weaver, is the clinical director.

Andrew Weaver said the center is scheduled to open in the fall. Exchange South is a medical office park.

It is a four-operating room single-specialty dental ambulatory surgery center that will provide dental care to pediatric patients and patients with special needs, he said. An ambulatory center is an outpatient facility.

“Most of the patients have complex dental disease that cannot be met without access to a facility of this type,” he said.

Weaver said dental decay is the No. 1 chronic disease affecting children in the U.S., “and Florida is no different.”

“It is anticipated that more than 80% of the patients treated in Lakeside Dental Surgery Center will be Medicaid beneficiaries. It’s been proven in markets throughout the U.S. that facilities like Lakeside Dental Surgery Center greatly improve the pediatric dental access to care,” he said.

He said the facility will be the first ambulatory dental surgery center in the region and the first of its kind in Florida.

“What makes this surgery center unique from facilities in Orlando, Tampa and Miami is that pediatric anesthesiologists will be staffed to perform the general anesthesia, and the facility will open its credentialing process to all pediatric dentists and dental specialists in the region so they can utilize the facility to treat their own patients,” Weaver said.

Its website says the open credentialing process will allow patients with extensive treatment plans to have their procedures completed in a single visit by their own dentist.

The project design team, all of Jacksonville, includes Sauer as general contractor; Stephen Reinel, of R.A.D. Designs, as the architect; TLC Engineering Solutions; and Rebecca Davisson Interior Design.
