The city issued a permit Sept. 9 for Realco Recycling Co. Inc. to demolish the closed European Street restaurant at 5500 Beach Blvd.

Realco will take down the 6,194-square-foot building at a cost of $25,000 to make way for a LUV Car Wash.

Baker Design Build filed civil engineering plans with the city Sept. 6 to build a car wash on the 1.65-acre site near University Boulevard.

Scrubbles Beach Boulevard Express Wash LLC, led by Todd Buckner, bought the property July 14 for $1.4 million from European Street of Beach Inc., led by owner Andy Zarka.

“Beach Boulevard will be a LUV location,” Buckner said July 16 by email.

Facing a slower than anticipated rebound from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on how people do business, Zarka closed the restaurant in April after 22 years in operation.

“That restaurant relied primarily on lunch business from office workers,” Zarka said April 21.

Zarka said he was able to move all of the Beach Boulevard staff to the European Street locations in San Marco, Riverside and Jacksonville Beach.
