Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed nine new members of the 5th Circuit District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission on Sept. 2, including five attorneys who practice in Northeast Florida.
On June 2, HB 7027 became law, creating the new 6th District Court of Appeal, an addition recommended by the state Supreme Court.
As part of the restructuring of the state appellate court system, the 4th Judicial Circuit, comprising Clay, Duval and Nassau counties, moved from the 1st DCA in Tallahassee to the 5th DCA in Daytona Beach.
The 5th DCA now includes the 4th, 5th, 7th and 18th judicial circuits in Central and Northeast Florida.
Under the new law, the terms of all members of the judicial nominating commissions of the 1st, 2nd and 5th DCAs were terminated to account for the change in boundaries caused by the creation of the 6th DCA.
The commissions interview and nominate applicants for judicial vacancies in their respective districts.
The new 5th DCA Judicial Nominating Commission:
• Adam Brandon is a shareholder at Rogers Towers in Jacksonville.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College, a master’s degree from the U.S. Naval War College and a law degree from the University of Notre Dame.
Brandon is appointed for a term ending July 1, 2023.
• Amanda Carl, director of legal and government affairs at Harrell’s LLC in Osteen. She received bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Florida.
Carl, formerly a member of the 1st DCA nominating commission, is reappointed for a term ending July 1, 2024.
• Carrie Eisnaugle is a counsel at The Grosshans Group in Sanford. She received a bachelor’s from Luther College and master’s and law degrees from Vanderbilt University.
Eisnaugle is reappointed for a term ending July 1, 2024.
• Alexandria Hill, a shareholder at Rogers Towers in Jacksonville, received a bachelor’s from Stetson University and a law degree from the University of Florida.
She is appointed from a list of nominees recommended by The Florida Bar for a term ending July 1, 2026.
• Joe Jacquot is a shareholder at Gunster Yoakley and Stewart in Jacksonville.
He received a bachelor’s from the University of Virginia and a law degree from the University of Florida.
Jacquot is appointed for a term ending July 1, 2026.
• Ned Price is a mediator at Ned I. Price PA in Jacksonville.
He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of South Florida and a law degree from Stetson University.
Price is appointed from a list of nominees recommended by The Florida Bar for a term ending July 1, 2026.
• Tance Roberts owns the Matanzas Law Firm in St. Augustine.
She received bachelor’s and law degrees from Florida State University and a master of law degree from the University of Florida.
Roberts is appointed from nominees recommended by The Florida Bar for a term ending July 1, 2024.
• Michael Sasso is a partner at Sasso & Sasso in Winter Park.
He received a bachelor’s from Colgate University and a law degree from Northern Kentucky University.
Sasso is reappointed for a term ending July 1, 2023.
• Milo Scott Thomas is a partner at Burr and Forman in Jacksonville.
He received bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Florida.
