121 Financial Ballpark keeps its name – for now

The merger of the 121 Financial and VyStar credit unions sparks the question of what happens next.

In 2020, 121 Financial Credit Union became the naming rights sponsor of the Jumbo Shrimp’s ballpark at the Downtown sports complex.

The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville was renamed 121 Financial Ballpark.

VyStar Credit Union is the naming rights sponsor of VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena across the street from the ballpark.

The credit unions did not announce in the April 20 release announcing their merger whether VyStar will also take over the ballpark naming rights.

“We will remain the naming rights partners,” said VyStar President and CEO Brian Wolfburg in a telephone interview.

“Our partners have an agreement and we will honor that.”

He said the sports district is an important part of building community relationships.

“We’re going to continue to our valued partnership with the Jumbo Shrimp,” said 121 Financial President and CEO David Marovich.

“At this point, the name will remain the same through this entire season and the remainder of the year.”
