Big Dan’s Car Wash is the latest car wash company to move into Jacksonville.
The Rome, Georgia, company intends to build at 2688 Firestone Road in West Jacksonville.
The city is reviewing a permit application for a 3,992-square-foot single-story car wash on 1.41 acres at an estimated $850,000.
According to its website, Big Dan’s has 16 locations open in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina along with 10 under construction in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina and 19 more coming soon in those states and North Carolina.
Jacksonville is counted as coming soon. It is at northwest Firestone Road and Wilson Boulevard.
Bigdanscarwash.com says the company operates exterior express car washes.
Hours vary by location but generally are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
The facility offers customers free amenities including air fresheners, microfiber towels, vacuums with wide and narrow heads, compressed air to clean out tight spaces, glass and interior cleaner, mat washing stations, mat beaters and a self-prep station at the site entrance.
Unlimited washes start at $17.99 a month and range up to $49.99.
Single washes range from $12 to $30.
The website says the “Jacksonville, FL location is opening soon,”
The name comes from founder Big Dan Shadday.
Car Wash Magazine reported in October 2021 at carwashmagazine.com that Big Dan’s Car Wash, a division of the Shadday Family Office, announced it would expand its premium express car wash operations across the Southeast.
Car Wash Magazine said the first phase of an investment topping $100 million would comprise 15 locations.
A third-generation company, the Shadday Family Office has been involved in the car wash industry for more than 20 years, the magazine said.
Shaddayco.com says The Shadday Family Office, the principal owner of Big Dan’s Car Wash, has previously operated 20 car washes and launched the Big Dan’s brand in December of 2020.
The company is named for Chairman Jarrett Shadday’s father, Dan Shadday.
“My dad was a great host and taught me long ago that the key to operating a successful business was to treat people with respect and kindness. For us, it isn’t just about washing cars – it’s about the people that choose to do business with us,” Jarrett Shadday said in the report.
Shadday also operates Cowboys Food Mart.
His son Jay Shadday is president of Big Dan’s and son Gamble Shadday will be an operating partner in Florida.
Each wash employs about 15 team people.
The magazine said Big Dan’s had closed first-round funding for their first 15 locations and was preparing to open funding for phase two.
The magazine said Pinnacle Financial Partners leads the financing for the expansion, which also includes private equity and lending from other institutions.
“This is a tremendous project that will bring jobs and growth to several communities in the Southeast,” said Baimba Norman, financial adviser at Pinnacle.
The Jacksonville property is owned by BD RC Jacksonville Wilson LP based in Winter Garden.
It paid $550,000 for the site Oct. 2, 2023, buying it from Waffle House Inc.
Waffle House paid $365,000 for the property in December 2017 in a purchase from Fist Coast Energy L.L.P.
