FedEx Freight wants to remodel a Northwest Jacksonville warehouse facility for lease as a distribution center.

The city is reviewing civil engineering plans and a permit application for an estimated $2 million renovation of the 20,582-square-foot building at 2501 Lloyd Road.

Plans show FedEx Freight would use 18,337 square feet for warehouse space and 2,245 square feet for offices.

The building was developed in 1987 on 5.74 acres and has more than 50 loading spaces.

FedEx Freight now leases a more than 50,000-square-foot transit facility at 310 Fox St. in West Jacksonville.

“We continually evaluate our network and make appropriate enhancements to best serve our customers,” said FedEx Freight Communications Advisor Ron Mears in Memphis.

"FedEx Freight has entered into a lease agreement for a facility at 2501 Lloyd Road in Jacksonville. This agreement is in addition to our service center located at 310 Fox St. in West Jacksonville.”

Pine Street/RPS of Jacksonville handles leasing for the Lloyd Road property.

Jacksonville-based 2501 Lloyd Road LLC, which is led by William “Mac” Easton, a Pine Street team member, owns the property.

Castles Design Group of Houston is the architect. Live Oak Engineering of Birmingham, Alabama, is the civil engineer.

Mark Wainwright with Pine Street/RPS said the property previously was leased by Central Freight.

The Lloyd Road site is near Amazon.com’s heavy bulk freight delivery station at 2780 Lloyd Road.

The city issued a permit in March 2020 for the Seattle-based online retailer to remodel that 11,520-square-foot warehouse at a cost of $1.4 million.

The permit is for “AMXL HJX1.” AMXL is a term for Amazon stations that deliver heavy bulk freight goods, described as 60 to 300 pounds. HJX1 is a location identifier.

The terminal has 33 dock-high loading positions. The site fronts Interstate 295. Property records show Ringsby Terminals Inc. of Denver owns the property.
