VyStar Credit Union hired Jim Edwards as chief financial officer, succeeding John Turpish, who retired in April 2022.
Edwards started the position in November.
Edwards is responsible for providing financial direction for the credit union, including strategic and financial leadership of balance sheet management, treasury, budgeting, acquisitions, analytics, and economic and financial forecasting.
Edwards, 59, has more than 30 years of financial services leadership experience. He most recently was CFO with Sharonview Federal Credit Union in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Before that, he was CFO for Chartway Federal Credit Union in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and spent 13 years in strategic leadership roles with BB&T’s Mortgage Division in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He served in financial leadership roles in Jacksonville between 1996 and 2003, including with EverBank and HomeSide Lending.
Edwards is a certified public accountant.
He joins VyStar as it continues to expand. It opened five full-service branches in 2022, including in Thomasville, its first location in Georgia.
Growth is planned in Florida and Georgia in 2023 and beyond.
