Alo Yoga, the apparel brand created in 2007 that stands for “air, land, ocean,” is building-out in St. Johns Town Center in the space vacated when White House Black Market was moved near Nordstrom.

Featured in The Wall Street Journal on May 31, the brand has “picked up on the desire for multifaceted, experiential stores that transcend the typical bricks-and-mortar model.”

The Journal reported the brand has 43 stores and more than $1 billion in sales in 2022.

“It’s made valuable inroads among the discerning Gen Z and Alpha customers,” the newspaper said. From 2021 to 2022, business nearly doubled.

Gen Z is roughly age 13 to 26 years old, and the Alpha generation comes after that, up to 13 years old.

The city issued a permit May 15 for James M. Barb Construction Inc. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, to build-out almost 3,700 square feet of space at a cost of almost $1.1 million. Lalire March Architects LLP of New York City is the architect.

The address is 4813 River City Drive, No. 119.

The business owner is Alo LLC, which is doing business in Florida as Alo Yoga LLC. Alo Yoga is based in Beverly Hills, California.

Construction is scheduled for substantial completion July 3.

The construction screen at St. Johns Town Center says the store is coming in summer 2023.

“Alo has an intangible ‘it factor’ at the moment,” the Journal reported.

Childhood best friends Marco DeGeorge and CEO Danny Harris co-founded Alo Yoga.

The Journal said the brand took off during the pandemic “when body-conscious uber-influencers including Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid ventured out in the brand’s simple, coordinated workout pairings.”

In the past year, the brand pushed further into the men’s wear. And it recently launched its first sneaker, which the Journal said sold out instantly and has a waitlist.

Alo Yoga also sells yoga mats, wellness products and an $98 essential oil diffuser, steaming and in-person workout classes and jewelry.

It also offers classes by Zoom.

The Journal report said that while Alo Yoga is smaller than Nike and Lululemon, it is making gains.

Coincidentally, Lululemon is building-out a larger space at St. Johns Town Center in the closed Michael Kors store near the Alo Yoga space.

Alo Yoga says celebrities such as Hailey Baldwin Bieber, Gigi Hadid, Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner “are photographed wearing Alo all the time for a reason: because it’s their daily go-to.”

AloYoga.com lists 34 stores in eight states and Ontario. The number is fewer than that reported in the Journal.

There are three stores in Florida, in Miami, Palm Beach Gardens and Tampa.

The other states are California (10), New York (five), Texas (four); Colorado (three) and two each in Arizona, Illinois and Massachusetts and in Ontario.

It has yoga studios in Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades in California and in Williamsburg, New York.

The site says:

“Alo began in Los Angeles in 2007 because the founders wanted to spread good by bringing yoga to the world: to anyone who is experiencing the transformative power of yoga, to the world’s best yogis who wear Alo because it’s the only line that actually elevates their practice, to the celebrities and the fashion-forward who wear Alo because it’s the perfect street brand, comfortable, contemporary and decidedly not just for the mat.”
