Daniel Bean elected JaxPort chair

The Jacksonville Port Authority chose the attorney to lead the seven-member board of directors.

The Jacksonville Port Authority board of directors unanimously elected attorney Daniel Bean as chair and voted on additional officers effective Oct. 1, JaxPort announced Sept. 28.

Bean is a founding partner at ABL Law and previously was executive partner in the Jacksonville office of Holland & Knight.

He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law.

Other officers elected for terms through Sept. 30, 2024:

• Vice Chair Wendy Hamilton, president of Eventide Investments of Florida Inc.

• Treasurer J. Palmer Clarkson, retired former president and CEO of Bridgestone HosePower LLC and the 2022-23 JaxPort board cha.

• Secretary Soo Gilvarry, CEO and owner of Lotus Commercial USA LLC.

Other board members include Jamie Shelton, president of bestbet Jacksonville, and Ed Fleming, retired CEO and president of Atlantic Marine Holding Co. One seat remains to be filled.

Hamilton will serve as chair of the Audit Committee, which provides oversight on the port’s finances as well as internal and external control systems. Clarkson, Gilvarry and Fleming will also will serve on the committee.

JaxPort’s board of directors provides policy guidance. Jacksonville’s mayor appoints four members and Florida’s governor appoints three.

Cargo activity through Jacksonville’s seaport supports 138,000 jobs and generates more than $31 billion in annual economic output for the region and state, according to JaxPort.
