Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club owner Corner Lot filed plans with the city for an estimated $4.78 million renovation of the clubhouse it bought in January.

Avant Construction Group is the contractor and Bold Line Design LLC is the architect. Both are based in Jacksonville.

The permit application shows an interior renovation of the 22,568-square-foot clubhouse at 4590 Glen Kernan Parkway E.

The work includes alterations of the building consisting of a restaurant and bar, golf pro shop, locker rooms, cart barn and administrative offices.

The structure consists of concrete masonry exterior walls with wood-framed interior partitions and roof structure.

It was built in 2001.

Jacksonville-based Corner Lot and Hampton Golf paid almost $4.9 million Jan. 5 for the Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club golf course and are partnering in a yearlong project to redesign and revamp it.

Hodges Blvd. Development Group Inc. sold the golf course, clubhouse and other associated golf club amenities to Glen Kernan GCC LLC, led by Corner Lot CEO Andy Allen and COO George Leone and Hampton Golf COO Travis Norman.

Allen said when the purchase was announced Jan. 6 that the course was closed and he expected to reopen it in January 2025.

The community is at northeast Kernan and Butler boulevards.

Glen Kernan will remain a private golf club upon the project’s completion. Membership will be open to the residents of Glen Kernan and will be offered to those outside the community by invitation only.

The Glen Kernan course redesign will be handled by Hampton Golf under the PGA Tour professional and area resident Jim Furyk and his design team, according to the Jan. 6 Corner Lot release.

Furyk has won 17 times on the PGA Tour including the 2010 FedEx Cup. He won the 2003 U.S. Open.

Furyk is a longtime member of Glen Kernan, according to Golfweek.usatoday.com.

Cameron Smith, winner of the 2023 Players and the Open Championship, also is an investor in Glen Kernan Golf & Country Club, reported Golfweek.usatoday.com on Jan. 5.

“I’ve had the pleasure of becoming friends with Cam and Jim over the past couple of years,” Allen wrote in a text to Golfweek.usatoday.com.

“When this opportunity came up, I wanted to put a team and partnership in place with an aligned vision for a golf club that will have a greater impact on our community by bringing a golf experience second to none in Jacksonville. Corner Lot’s mission is to build up our city through smart development and partnerships. This one may take the cake,” Allen wrote in the text.

Norman told Golfweek.usatoday.com that there was a significant amount of deferred maintenance “to be addressed in the first year to make it a premier club in the area.”

“We know that demand is high for a high-end private club with limited membership, and the supply is lower in this market,” Norman said.

Norman said owners also will expand the clubhouse and freshen other amenities at its athletic park including pickleball, tennis and a fitness center.
