The Downtown Investment Authority hired Denver-based landscape architecture and urban design firm Civitas to redesign Metropolitan Park, according to a news release.

Agency PR issued the release April 22, five days after a meeting to gather public input on redesigns of the Northbank park.

The release said the meeting was part of Civitas’ design process.

“Formatted like an open house event rather than a formal presentation, the intent of this first gathering was to hear what the community needs and wants; to share the project’s initial guiding principles and ask Jacksonville community members to offer input about their past experiences with Metropolitan Park and their priorities for its future,” the release said.

The park is on 15 acres near EverBank Stadium and near the WJCT studios on Gator Bowl Boulevard.

Featured projects on the Civitas website include the North Embarcadero in San Diego, California; the 5280 Trail in Denver; and the Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park in Tampa.
