Goodwill Industries of North Florida applied for a permit to renovate its Lenox Avenue headquarters building for a larger Outlet/Pound Store and warehousing at an estimated cost of $1 million as it prepares to move into a new corporate office along Timuquana Road.

Both are in West Jacksonville.

Bush Construction Co. Inc. of Jacksonville is the contractor for the 57,873-square-foot warehouse and outlet/pound store project at 4527 Lenox Ave. Gary L. McDonald Architect is the design professional.

Goodwill uses the proceeds raised at the thrift stores and from other programs to fund training, education and career opportunities for those in need.

Pound stores allow shoppers to buy merchandise priced, as it sounds, by the pound.

CEO David Rey expects work to start in May and be completed by year-end. The existing pound store will remain operating in the warehouse during construction and expand to 10,000 square feet.

“As we continue to grow our mission to remove barriers to unemployment, we are expanding with a new, larger outlet store and additional warehouse space,” Rey said April 18.

“The move into our new corporate office comes at a very important time for our team. Being able to grow our outlet store, warehouse space and corporate headquarters will help us keep pace with the growth of our programs and services.”

The Lenox Avenue project is the demolition and renovation to the building to expand the retail and warehouse operations at Lenox and Edgewood avenues, near Interstate 10.

Goodwill Industries of North Florida applied for a permit to renovate its Lenox Avenue headquarters building for a larger Outlet/Pound Store and warehousing at an estimated cost of $1 million.

The work comprises demolition of the existing corporate offices, mezzanine second floor, concrete ramp at the warehouse, partition walls and more.

The renovations will be a new concrete pad, foundations for canopies, a new sidewalk at the front entrance, new flooring, preparation of interior walls, and fire sprinkler, plumbing, electric, HVAC and cleaning work.

The project comes as Goodwill Industries is converting a former shopping center for its Timuquana Corporate Campus headquarters.

Goodwill expects to move into the space by May. It says it has received its Certificate of Occupancy from the city and is ready to move in.

Goodwill Chief Real Estate Officer Karen Phillips said Nov. 20 that Goodwill’s new 17,500-square-foot corporate headquarters is under construction at 5150 Timuquana Road in West Jacksonville. Eason Development LLC is the contractor at the Timuquana Shopping Center.

A $3.63 million renovation of 34,000 square feet of space is underway to convert the Timuquana Shopping Center for the Goodwill Industries of North Florida headquarters and a GoodCareers Center.

The city issued a permit Aug. 17 for the $3.63 million renovation of 34,000 square feet to convert the shopping center for the Goodwill headquarters and a GoodCareers Center.

Other than the headquarters, Phillips said the remaining space will be used for Goodwill’s programs. Specific plans are under review.

Through GW Timuquana LLC, Goodwill Industries of North Florida paid $4 million for the property in March 2022.

Goodwill has said that when it moves to that office, renovations will begin at the current 62,000-square-foot Lenox Avenue headquarters to triple the size of the Outlet/Pound Store.

The store will increase from 3,291 to 10,000 square feet, and the rest of the building will be used for warehousing, salvage and transportation.

Goodwill Industries of North Florida operates 20 stores, 20 donation centers, one outlet/pound store, the online shopgoodwill.com/jacksonville site and five GoodCareers Centers throughout its 14-county North Florida territory.
