Ashley Wells Cox elected to 4th Circuit Court

Shayla Lee and Matthew Lufrano will face each other in a runoff for Duval County judge.

With 159 of 160 precincts reporting as of 9 p.m. Aug. 20, Ashley Wells Cox was elected to the 4th Circuit Court in Group 34, defeating Nancy Cleaveland.

The tally was 55.3%, 61,524 votes for Cox; 44.7%, 49,731 votes for Cleaveland.

Cox is a director at Bedell, Dittmar, DeVault, Pillans & Coxe, where she has practiced since 2006.

She graduated from Duke University in 1997 and then from Northwestern University School of Law in 2002. 

Between college and law school Cox joined the Inner-City Teaching Corps and taught in Chicago for two years.

She was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2004 after practicing in Georgia for two years as a Skadden Fellow attorney at Atlanta Legal Aid Society for two years.

Cox then moved to Jacksonville, and became an assistant state attorney, prosecuting misdemeanor and felony cases as well as being chosen by the State Attorney to work on a grand jury investigation of possible misuse of city funds for a capital project.

Duval County judge in Group 9

With 159 of 160 precincts reporting in the race for Duval County judge in Group 9, Shayla Lee and Matthew Lufrano will compete in a runoff in the Nov. 5 general election.

Lee received 34,086 votes, 31.36%; Lufrano received 30,716 votes, 28.26%.

The other two candidates in the primary, Andrew Bonderud received 26,330 votes (24.22%) and Marcus Isom received 17,576 votes (16.17%).
