HCA Healthcare planning emergency center in St. Augustine

HCA Healthcare is planning a free-standing St. Augustine emergency room, according to plans filed with St. Johns County. 

The proposed project is at 870 and 890 Florida 16 northeast of the Publix Super Market in the Shoppes of Mission Trace shopping center.

According to the HCA application, the site is about 2 acres with an existing single-family residential building and vacant commercial land.

Memorial Healthcare Group Inc., through HCA Healthcare of Nashville, Tennessee, bought the property in 2023 for about $3.7 million.

The proposed development is a 10,860-square-foot building with 40 parking spaces.

According to its application with St. Johns County, the proposed HCA Healthcare project is a 10,860-square-foot building with 40 parking spaces, driving aisles, utilities and a stormwater management system.

Hereford Dooley Architects Inc. of Nashville is the architect. Catalyst Design Group of Winter Park is the civil engineer.

A second St. Johns County HCA free-standing emergency room is about 20 miles north at 42 Doctors Village Drive near Julington Creek Plantation, according to HCAFloridaHealthcare.com.

In Jacksonville, it has an emergency room at its main campus at 3625 University Blvd. S; Atlantic Emergency at 11850 Atlantic Blvd.; Mandarin Emergency at 10910 San Jose Blvd.; Normandy Park Emergency at 5773 Normandy Blvd.; and Park West Emergency at 6477 103rd St..

Another HCA Healthcare free-standing ER is in development at 8100 Merrill Road in Arlington.

Auld & White Constructors LLC of Jacksonville is the contractor for the permit to clear 4 acres at the site south of Merrill and Hartsfield roads at an estimated project cost of $50,000.

The wooded site is west of Interstate 295 and next to a RaceTrac gas station and convenience store. The property is across from Merrill Station Shopping Center, which is anchored by a Walmart Neighborhood Market.

In Clay County, there is an ER in HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital at 2001 Kingsley Ave.
