BJ’s Wholesale Club announced it will open its North Jacksonville store Jan. 12.

The club is at 12884 City Center Blvd. at the south end of River City Marketplace. The 104,148-square-foot store is taking the site where the 63,810-square-foot Regal Cinemas was demolished.

Club hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, according to bjs.com.

It is the fourth Northeast Florida club for BJ’s, which also has locations on Atlantic Boulevard in East Arlington, on Philips Highway near Baymeadows and in Orange Park. It has a distribution center in West Jacksonville.

BJ’s says it offers fresh foods, produce, full-service deli items, fresh bakery goods, household essentials, home decor and pet supplies.

“Our mission is to serve the families who depend on us by delivering up to 25% off grocery store prices every day,” Club Manager Tom Condon said in a Jan. 4 news release.

The club will include a BJ’s Gas station, tire center and optical department. The company said in March it planned to hire about 150 people for the store.

Once the club is open, it will donate unsold produce, meat, dairy and other items to the Feeding Northeast Florida food bank, BJ’s said.

The 104,148-square-foot BJ's wholesale club will open where the closed Regal Cinemas was demolished.

“We’re grateful to kick off the new year by deepening our partnership with BJ’s Wholesale Club,” Susan King, president and CEO of Feeding Northeast Florida, said in the release.

BJ’s said it has partnered with Feeding America and the Feeding America network of food banks for more than 15 years, providing more than 125 million meals to local families.

BJ’s said it has donated more than $40,000 to fund classroom projects in 55 Jacksonville area schools. BJ’s Charitable Foundation partners with DonorsChoose, a national nonprofit organization, to help meet needs for classroom supplies.

Based in Marlborough, Massachusetts, BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. says it operates 241 clubs and 172 BJ’s Gas locations in 20 states. The North Jacksonville store is its 37th in Florida.

The city issued a permit in April for T.D. Farrell Construction Inc. of Alpharetta, Georgia, to build the store at a project cost of $8 million.

Other membership stores in Northeast Florida include Costco and Sam’s Club.
