Dutch Bros Coffee is taking shape in Northeast Florida.

The city issued a permit Jan. 22 for Ganaway Contracting of Roswell, Georgia, to build a 950-square-foot Dutch Bros to-go shop on a 0.55-acre site at 5733 Roosevelt Blvd. at a project cost of $450,000.

The drive-thru kiosk will have a walk-up window. There is no indoor seating.

Site development includes a parking area, two drive-thru aisles, pavement, landscaping and a trash enclosure.

Pavilion Development Co. of Charlotte, North Carolina, is listed as the owner. Coralic Architecture of St. Louis is the architect. Bowman Consulting Group Ltd. of Melbourne is the civil engineer.

The site is in the Venetia area of West Jacksonville on a site that previously was a Larry’s Giant Subs. Larry’s moved to a new location at 5857 Roosevelt Blvd. that was built in 2022.

The Dutch Bros location is south of Winn-Dixie.

Six identified sites for Dutch Bros Coffee have emerged in Northeast Florida as the Oregon-based chain of drive-thru shops expands through Texas into the Southeast.

In addition to the Venetia property, the chain is exploring sites at Elevation Pointe, Palencia and the Shops of Race Track Road in St. Johns County; and along Argyle Forest Boulevard in Southwest Jacksonville and Baymeadows at the Point Meadows shopping center in South Jacksonville.

Dutch Bros carries coffee, drinks and a limited menu of pastries with no cooking on-site. It offers cold brew, chai, hot coffees, energy drinks, teas, lemonades, smoothies and its signature Dutch sodas.

The food menu includes granola bars and muffin tops.

Christine Barone, president and CEO of Dutch Bros Coffee.

New CEO Christine Barone has said the company is designing its executive leadership team to scale and grow to 4,000 shops.

Brothers Dane and Travis Boersma founded Dutch Bros in 1992. Dutch Bros Inc. was formed June 4, 2021, to become a public company. It is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

Nations Restaurant News reported Nov. 8 that as the company opened its 800th store in October, Dutch Bros is “well on its way to its long-term goal of quintupling its current store portfolio to reach 4,000 locations over the next 10-15 years.”

“As we’ve gone into the center of the country and into Texas, it’s been really important to have a base there as we continue to expand East and open in new markets like North Carolina and Florida,” Barone told Nation’s Restaurant News.

President since February 2023, Barone took on the additional role of CEO effective Jan. 1, 2024, succeeding Joth Ricci.

Barone said that when Dutch Bros enters new markets, it plans to use a strategy to penetrate markets more completely, build up brand recognition and boost revenue with effects likely to be seen by 2025.

Dutch Bros joins several coffee drive-thru kiosk chains opening in the area.
