The owners of Mr. Potato Spread have decided not to renew their lease at the Orange Park Mall location.

Lakita and Aaron Spann will close the Orange Park food court location July 26.

They announced the closure July 24 on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

The Orange Park restaurant has been open for four years, according to an accompanying post from Lakita Spann.

The Mr. Potato Spread food truck and North Jacksonville restaurant at 840 Nautica Drive in River City Marketplace will remain in operation.

Its first franchise location at 7159 Philips Highway closed in January.

Much of the staff is being retained and will move to the River City Marketplace location.

The Spanns began the business in August 2014. Mr. Potato Spread serves a variety of stuffed baked potatoes, fries, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Prices range from $10 to $13. Customers can build their own potato creation choosing from cheeses, vegetables, proteins, sauces and spices.

The Facebook post said that by closing the Orange Park store they can use the food truck more often. Lakita Spann said in a July 25 post that one less store will allow them to concentrate more on the family.

“We have a 8 year old and a 15 year old to take care of now and that changed everything for us. We have given ourselves permission to close one door in order to open other doors,” the post reads.

The JAX Chamber awarded Lakita Spann its Small Business Leader of the Year award in February.
