Canopy Road Cafe is building-out in Mandarin next to Huey Magoo’s Chicken Tenders in a former bank building at 10560 Old St. Augustine Road. It will be the restaurant’s third area location.
Tri-State Builders & Remodeling LLC of St. Augustine is the contractor renovating the 2,047-square-foot space at a project cost of $276,027. The city issued a permit July 18.
The site is at northwest Old St. Augustine and Hartley roads, north of Interstate 295.
Huey Magoo’s opened in May 2022.
Birdbox Ventures LLC, led by Huey Magoo’s franchisee Michael Phillips, paid $915,000 for the almost 1-acre Old St. Augustine Road site in May 2021.
Phillips said he would redevelop the 4,000-square-foot building, a former bank, for two tenants, including a Huey Magoo’s drive-thru unit.
Canopy Road Cafe will lease the right portion of the building with interior and patio dining.
Phillips said Oct. 16 he leased space to Canopy Road Cafe next to Huey Magoo’s.
Canopy Road Cafe has two area restaurants as well as five in Tallahassee and one each in Brandon, Inlet Beach, Lithia, Riverview and Santa Rosa Beach.
The two area locations are at 12525 Philips Highway in Jacksonville and at 90 Shops Blvd., No. 10, in Saint Johns.
Tallahassee-based Canopy Road Cafe serves breakfast and lunch from 6:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. daily.
Menu items include starters, benedicts, pancakes, waffles, omelets, skillets, handhelds, salads, sandwiches, burgers, sides, drinks and more.
CanopyRoadCafe.com says Brad Buckenheimer and David Raney founded the company. They opened their first restaurant in April 2007 in their college town of Tallahassee.
Nicholas Presti and Zachary Presti manage the three Canopy Road Cafe Jacksonville limited liability companies.
