North Guana Outpost of Mickler’s Beach plans to expand.

The locally owned outfitter applied for a permit to grow its footprint with St. Johns County on June 5.

It plans to demolish its 1,800-square-foot facility and replace it with about 7,700 square feet of retail space, a restaurant and a pavilion.

North Guana Outpost is owned by spouses James and Gail Ingalls. It specializes in equipment and clothing for water sports. According to its website, it also rents equipment, including kayaks, standup paddleboards, surfboards and bicycles. Surfing lessons are offered.

The site plan for the new North Guana Outpost shows a retail space, kitchen, pavilion and a treatment pond.

At 4415 Mickler Road, North Guana Outpost operates on 0.87 acre.

According to site plans, retail space would be 2,000 square feet. A kitchen is planned to be 3,000 square feet and a pavilion would be 2,700 square feet.

Plans show a treatment pond estimated at 11,000 square feet.

The North Guana Outpost at 4415 Mickler Road in St. Johns County is .4 miles from Mickler Beach.

North Guana Outpost LLC also owns 1.7 acres of adjacent vacant property where it proposes to develop 78 parking spaces, according to its application.

“The project aims to create a fun atmosphere for families to enjoy small foods and gather under open-air structures,” it says.

“The property owner plans to install crushed coquina or similar material with railroad ties in the parking areas to maintain a rustic, upscale look and preserve the feel of the location and its proximity to Guana.”

Legend Engineering is the civil engineer for the project.

The business was founded in 2014, according to its website.
