More than 40 law firm teams competed in the Jacksonville Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Chili Cook-off on Feb. 24 at the Riverside Arts Market.
After the panel of judges deliberated and the votes from the public were counted, prizes were awarded in eight categories:
Best Overall Chili: Coleman Talley
Crowd favorite: Cobb & Gonzalez
Spiciest chili: Woolsey Morcom
Meatiest chili: Fernandez Trial Lawyers
Most original recipe: Edwards & Ragatz
Team spirit: Tyson & Mendes
Best fixins: Davis Law Firm
Best cornbread: Cobb & Gonzalez
The final charitable donation figure won’t be known until all the contributions are collected, but the event raised at least $20,000 for this year’s beneficiaries, the nonprofit GameFace 4:13 and the JBA YLS Ribault Future Lawyers program, said Chili Cook-off Committee Co-chair Summer Reed on Feb. 26.
This year’s corporate sponsors and partners were North Florida Financial, Florida Blue, Northpoint Dental, George Moore Chevrolet, SunBelt Rentals and Bold City Brewing.
Pedal Pub, Jacksonville Icemen, Jacksonville Sharks, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Chamblin’s Bookmine and Uptown were awards sponsors.
