Jacksonville-based Gulf & Atlantic Railways LLC said May 1 it is changing its name to Pinsly Railroad Company, after the short line rail operator acquired the railroad operations of Massachusetts-based Pinsly in October.

The company said Pinsly is the second-oldest short line railway company in North America, tracing its roots to 1938.

Pinsly, which will continue to be headquartered at Gulf & Atlantic’s offices at 245 Riverside Ave. in the Brooklyn area of Downtown Jacksonville, operates six short line railroads.

The largest is the Florida Gulf & Atlantic railroad, which operates 430 miles of track in the Florida Panhandle and Southern Georgia.

It also operates tracks in Massachusetts, Mississippi, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.

CEO Ryan Ratledge said in a news release the company will “run and grow our portfolio of railroad, warehousing, transloading and trucking businesses” under the new name.
