Whataburger renovating former Applebee’s in Southwest Jacksonville

The city issued a permit for the $1.9 million project to remodel the building and add a double drive-thru at 6251 103rd St.

Whataburger is renovating a closed Applebee’s restaurant at 6251 103rd St. in Southwest Jacksonville at a project cost of almost $1.9 million.

The city issued a construction permit Oct. 2 for the almost $1.6 million renovation after a June 14 site-clearing permit of $300,000.

Venture Construction Co. is the contractor.

Silvercreek Group LLC of Manvel, Texas, is renovating the 4,705-square-foot building and adding a drive-thru. The site is near northwest 103rd Street and Blanding Boulevard, east of Interstate 295.

Whataburger is preparing to renovate a closed Applebee’s restaurant at 6251 103rd St. west of Blanding Boulevard across the street from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

Silvercreek Group paid $1.7 million for the 1.69-acre property Dec. 13, 2023.

The Applebee’s was built in 1995, property records show.

Sevan Engineering and Seven Design Solutions, both of Downers Grove, Illinois, are the civil engineer and architect. 

In September 2023, Sevan Multi-Site Solutions of Downers Grove submitted civil engineering plans for the restaurant and double drive-thru.

The review followed a JEA service availability request in June 2023 that showed a 76-seat, 5,000-square-foot restaurant and drive-thru.

Whatburger.com shows 14 locations in Northeast Florida, including seven in Jacksonville.

The San Antonio-based chain started in 1950 and now has systemwide revenue of more than $4 billion annually with more than 1,050 restaurants in 16 states.

Whataburger sells burgers, sandwiches, fries, salads, drinks, shakes, breakfast, desserts and snacks.
