Dank Burrito, a North Carolina-based fast-casual burrito franchise, is coming to Ponte Vedra.

St. Johns County issued a building permit Oct. 15 for Dank Burrito to build-out a 2,450-square-foot restaurant at 10580 U.S. 1 N., Suite 402, in the Shoppes of Valley Ridge.

The Ash Properties center is south of County Road 210. A center map shows Dank Burrito adjacent to Universal Stone.

It is Dank Burrito’s sixth location and first in Florida.

Skyline Construction Inc. of Lake City is the contractor. The project cost is $515,664.

According to dankburrito.com, chef Clarke Merrell founded Dank Burrito as a food truck in 2014, winning National Food Truck Rookie of the Year.

He opened the first brick-and-mortar store in 2015 in Morehead City, North Carolina. Other stores operating in the state are in Raleigh, Greenville and Fayetteville. There is also a store in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Merrell started working in his father’s restaurant and opened his own at 28.

Burrito options at Dank Burrito include carne asada, jerk chicken and honey truffle buffalo shrimp. Cajun fried catch, cheesesteak and Asian pulled pork are some of the tacos. There are also bowls, salads, sides and desserts.

“Today, we serve our explosive flavors to loyal Danksters and new converts by the thousands. While the Dank Nation thrives and expands, we keep the same stubborn commitment to excellence and creativity that inspired our very first burrito. Classic but never basic, irreverent, never casual, Dank Burrito is the irresistible favorite you never saw coming,” the website says.
