Bass Pro Shops, which announced in May 2023 its plans to open a retail store, will host a hiring event from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 and Sept. 11 at World Golf Village Renaissance St. Augustine Resort.

The outdoor retailer is seeking to fill 130 positions at its 13th Florida location, according to a Sept. 3 news release. Applicants are encouraged to apply in advance at basspro.com/careers before attending the hiring fair for on-site interviews.

The resort is at 500 S. Legacy Trail.

The Bass Pro Shops website says 173 retail stores operate nationwide and in Canada.

The 100,000-square-foot location is scheduled to open later this year, according to its website. The exact date will be announced soon, the release said.

A site plan for Bass Pro Shops shows the outdoor boat showroom on the west side of the site that is just off Interstate 95 south of the Costco Wholesale Club site.

St. Johns County approved construction plans in March.

The store is along World Commerce Parkway, south of Buc-ee’s and Costco Wholesale, and west of Interstate 95 at the International Golf Parkway exit south of World Golf Village.

“We love the great state of Florida and all of the world-class fishing, hunting, and outdoor recreation opportunities it provides,” Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris said in a May 2023 release. “This new store will make it easier for people and families throughout the First Coast region to spend time together in the great outdoors.”

Bass Pro Shops said that it had been searching for a prime location to serve the greater Jacksonville market and that the new St. Johns County site will be convenient for the entire region. The store will offer fishing and outdoor gear for activities such as hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, and camping, and will also feature boats, ATVs, and side-by-side vehicles.

The store will include an aquarium with native fish species, thousands of local antiques and artifacts, hundreds of trophy fish and wildlife mounts, and murals depicting local scenes.

“We have great people. How did we get them? One reason is because they share our passion. They would rather help people get connected to the outdoors — see a kid catch his first fish, help a family spend a night in a tent, or buy their first boat. That’s what we’re all about,” Morris said on the Bass Pro hiring site.

The store is being developed on 18.11 acres that Bass Pro purchased May 30 from World Commerce Center L.L.P., led by Jacksonville-based Steinemann-Wolfe L.L.C. Bass Pro Outdoor World L.L.C., based in Springfield, Missouri, paid $8 million for the property.

RAA Design LLC of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Kinetic Design + Development LLC of Springfield are the project applicants and agents. Contineo Group LLC of Decatur, Georgia, is the civil engineer.

Bass Pro Shops was founded in 1972 when Morris began selling tackle out of his father’s liquor store in Springfield.
