Shake Shack opening Sept. 18 at St. Johns Town Center

The New York City “modern day burger stand” replaces M Shack.

Shake Shack announced Sept. 10 it will open at 11 a.m. Sept. 18 in St. Johns Town Center.

It will be the first in Jacksonville and the 22nd in Florida.

The restaurant succeeds M Shack at 10281 Midtown Parkway, Unit 101.

Shake Shack said the restaurant will open at 11 a.m. daily and close at 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and at 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Shake Shack serves burgers, hot dogs, crinkle-cut fries, shakes, frozen custard and drinks.

Look for burgers that include black truffle, avocado bacon and veggie; chicken sandwiches and bites; BLTs; grilled cheese; hot dogs; crinkle cut fries; shakes, floats and frozen custard, including nondairy options; other drinks; and party boxes of 12 sandwiches or orders of fries.

Shake Shack said the Jacksonville location will serve beer and wine, but it may not be available on opening day.

Hamburgers start at $6.49 and grilled cheese is $4.99 at an Orlando location. The Black Truffle Shack Stack is $13.49.

Customers can order at the store or eventually be able to order ahead for pickup or delivery via the app or online at order.shakeshack.com.

On opening day, the first guests could receive custom Shake Shack tumbler cups.

The announcement said that as part of Shake Shack’s mission to  Stand for Something Good, the St. Johns Town Center Shack will donate $1 for every sandwich sold Sept. 18 to Feeding Northeast Florida to support the nonprofit’s work to rescue high-quality food for those in need. 

Customers also can bring nonperishable food items to donate on opening day.

Shake Shack converted the closed M Shack after the city issued a permit April 15 for the $1.3 million project.

RCC Associates Inc. of Deerfield Beach was the contractor at the Southside shopping center. BAI Architecture Inc. of Boston was the architect.

M Shack closed March 17 after its lease expired. It opened in St. Johns Town Center in late 2013.

Shake Shack Jacksonville No. 1492, as it is called on the permit, will be 4,258 square feet comprising 3,136 square feet of inside space and 1,122 square feet of patio space.

Plans show 117 seats, comprising 87 inside and 30 outside. 

New York City-based Shake Shack Inc. calls itself a “modern day ‘roadside’ burger stand.”

It says it serves “elevated versions” of made-to-order Angus beef burgers, crispy chicken, hand-spun milkshakes, housemade lemonades and more.

“With its fresh and simple, high-quality food at a great value, Shake Shack is a fun and lively community-gathering place with widespread appeal,” the company says on its website.

Shake Shack Inc.’s second-quarter report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Aug. 1 says that since the original Shack opened in 2004 in NYC’s Madison Square Park, the company has expanded to more than 540 Shacks in operation, with more than 350 in 33 U.S. states and the District of Columbia and 190 international locations across London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Mexico City, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo, Seoul and more. 

There are 21 open in Florida, with the closest in Orlando.
