U-Haul expanding, renovating Palencia location

U-Haul is planning to renovate and expand in the Palencia area of St. Johns County. 

The proposed development is at 6810 U.S. 1 N. at northeast U.S. 1. and Stokes Landing Road. 

It is about a half-mile north of King’s Head Pub. 

The proposed use for the 12.42-acre site is a self-storage and rental facility for relocation. The project comprises the renovation of an existing U-Haul rental building, the construction of a three-story, 117,114-square-foot self-storage building and the construction of a one-story 17,012-square-foot-warehouse.

In addition to the proposed buildings, an RV/trailer long-term storage area, outside storage units, associated parking/loading areas and a stormwater detention pond are planned.

Site plans show 31 parking spaces.

It is the third U-Haul location in St. Johns County. According to U-Haul.com, the company operates more than 23,000 locations in the 50 U.S. states and 10 Canadian provinces.

The site is owned by U-haul through 6810 U.S. Highway 1 LLC of St. Augustine.

Shah, Dotros and Associates of Pompano Beach is the engineer. St. Augustine-based Karen Taylor, Land Planner is the architect. 

A rezoning from Commercial General to Commercial Warehouse is required to move forward on the project. The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to hear the plans and vote Oct. 1.
