Angones headlines Jacksonville Bar luncheon
Florida Bar President Francisco Angones will be the guest speaker at the Jacksonville Bar Association membership luncheon Thursday at the Omni Hotel.
Jacksonville Bar Board member Daniel Bean said more than 250 area lawyers normally attend the luncheons, although there should be a little extra interest for Angones.
“We are very fortunate every year to have the president of the Florida Bar speak to us and update us on Florida Bar activities and any special projects,” said Bean, and attorney at Holland & Knight “Really, that’s the basis of what we do at the Jacksonville Bar Association – to provide a foundation for lawyers to meet and make an impact as a group.”
The Florida Bar has had nine presidents from the Jacksonville area since 1950, the second most from any city in the state behind the Miami/Miami Beach area with 19, including Angones.
Angones is a founding partner of Miami law firm Angones, McClure & Garcia, P.A., where he practices personal injury defense, commercial torts and insurance defense litigation. He received his B.A. degree in 1972 and J.D. degree in 1976 from the University of Miami.
Angones has served in numerous Bar positions, including president of the Dade County Bar Association and the Cuban-American Bar Association, where he won the Passing Leadership Award this year.
He served on the Florida Bar Board of Governors from 2002 to 2006 and the Florida Bar Foundation Board of Directors from 1999 to 2000. He chaired the Florida Bar’s Legislation Committee and was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee from 2005 to 2006.
Angones has also served on more than 30 other professional, civic and community associations and boards, and the City of Miami proclaimed June 10, 2006 as Dr. Francisco R. Angones Day.
The R.S.V.P deadline for Thursday’s Bar Membership luncheon is 5 p.m. today. For more information, call 399-4486 or e-mail email@example.com.
