JALA hosts CLE on mental illness and the law

Rick Fairweather, Rogers Towers attorney and past chair of the Elder Law Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association, was one of the speakers at Friday’s symposium on mental illness, capacity and care sponsored by Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and approved by the Florida Bar for CLER Credits. He explained how attorneys and clients may structure advanced care scenarios and preserve assets. Other topics covered by the panel of specialists included treating mental illness, family emergencies with mental health issues and mental health issues in the criminal justice system as well as an overview of Medicare and Medicaid. All presenters donated their services to JALA with proceeds supporting the organization’s work in the community.
