Baptist South opens new Ambulatory Surgery Center

Baptist Medical Center South’s new Ambulatory Surgery Center is now open, adding two new state-of-the-art outpatient operating rooms, two endoscopy rooms and shelled space to add a third operating room in the future.

The new operating rooms include large, high-definition monitors that greatly enhance the visual clarity of the patient’s anatomy for the surgeon. These technologically advanced pieces of equipment enhance patient safety and allow for more timely treatment.

“Patients coming for endoscopies, orthopaedic surgery, gynecological surgery and some general surgeries, such as breast biopsies, will have them done in this new facility,” explained said Tracy Johnson, RN, BSN, CNOR, director of Perioperative and Endoscopy Services at Baptist South. “All inpatient procedures will still be performed in the main hospital.”

The new Ambulatory Surgery Center is the first space to open in the new 100,000-square-foot, five-story medical office building. Space on the remaining four floors will house new physician offices beginning in early 2010.
