Jacksonville University has honored 75 of its most distinguished and influential alumni, faculty and staff by inducting them as the inaugural group of “Distinguished Dolphins,” a designation that recognizes the individuals’ accomplishments and contribution to Jacksonville and American society in tribute to the university’s 75th Anniversary.
Mayor John Peyton issued a proclamation to honor the inaugural Distinguished Dolphins and the university’s contribution to Jacksonville. The group are esteemed individuals that have positively impacted numerous industries, civic organizations and community non-profit organizations around the world. JU has also launched a Web site to commemorate the Distinguished Dolphins and its 75th anniversary at www.ju.edu/anniversary.
“Many alumni, faculty and staff associated with Jacksonville University are pioneers in their field of interest, advancing the cultural, economic and societal development of our city and our nation,” said Kerry Romesburg, president of JU and an inaugural Distinguished Dolphin. “Honoring these distinguished individuals also highlights Jacksonville University for its educational environment infused with productivity and community involvement, driving all students, faculty and staff to succeed in their passions.”
The inaugural group of “75 Distinguished Dolphins” includes athletes, CEOs, community advocates, politicians and military leaders. Ranging from Hollywood producers to military generals to famous musicians to philanthropists, each inaugural “Distinguished Dolphin” has left his or her footprint on the world in a unique way.
“Individuals in the future who personify themselves as Distinguished Dolphins will continue to be recognized and inducted into this elite group in the coming years,” said Ron Autrey, chair of JU’s Board of Trustees and president and COO of Miller Electric Company, as well as an inaugural Distinguished Dolphin. “This diverse, inaugural group represents a wide variety of industries, civic organizations, arts and cultural organizations and athletes who have originated at or have contributed to Jacksonville University. Those associated with our university are honored to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of their fellow achievers.”
