Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. Chairman, President and CEO Farooq Kathwari (left) met Tuesday with the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville and The Gate Governors Club. Retired Adm. Jonathan Howe, World Affairs chairman, welcomed Kathwari to the meeting, attended by almost 100 people at The River Club Downtown. Kathwari’s presentation was “The Future of U.S. Manufacturing” and he relayed how Danbury, Conn.-based Ethan Allen chose to maintain the bulk of its home furnishings operations in the United States rather than use offshore production like many other manufacturers have done. “We had to be innovative,” he said. That included not succumbing to Wall Street expectations of expanding into other lines. “I said no,” he said. “We are only interested in running one thing and running it well.”
