Nonprofit News: Highlighting Jacksonville’s Philanthropic Community

by Catie Fry, Copy Editor

As our community continues to face a tight economy and shrinking budgets, the Daily Record has established this feature that each week reports the efforts of local nonprofit organizations and the individuals and businesses that support them.

Bailey Publishing & Communications invites all members of the local nonprofit community to email news, announcements and success stories to nonprofitnews@baileypub.com or to cfry@baileypub.com.

We also encourage our readers to become more aware of the needs of these worthy organizations as they continue to provide valuable services with reduced resources.

Tribute dinner held for Community Connections

Community Connections will host its annual Tribute 101 dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 4. at the Omni Jacksonville. This year’s benefit will celebrate the organization’s more than 100-year history as a human services agency in Northeast Florida. Civic leaders Greg and Ginny Smith will be honored with the Florence N. Davis Award for Community Achievement.

Tribute 101 will raise funds for Community Connections and support its mission to meet the needs of homeless and low-income women, children and families in Jacksonville.

Physicians rock for Bosom Buddies

Area physicians will trade in their stethoscopes for guitars from 6-11 p.m. Oct. 5 as they perform at River City Brewing Company during the second annual Remission Rocks event to raise awareness and funds for Bosom Buddies. The cost is $20 per ticket in advance and $25 at the door, and includes light appetizers and a beverage. Physicians’ groups include Drs. Chris Rathburn and William Gorospe’s band, No Known Cure, along with Dr. David Swain opening the show on guitar.
