Episcopal hires Brunell

from staff

Former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell will be on the campus of Episcopal School of Jacksonville next week to begin scheduling opponents for the 2013 football season, a year in which he will lead the team as head football coach and program director after being hired Sunday.

"Episcopal is excited to bring on a head coach who has excelled at the highest levels in football," said Andy Kidd, Episcopal athletic director in a news release. "Mark has all of the characteristics we desired for the next leader of our program."

Brunell, 42, played for 19 seasons in the NFL, including nine seasons with the Jaguars from 1995-2003 in a span that included the team's greatest on-field successes. He was traded to the Washington Redskins before the 2004 season and spent four years there before signing with the New Orleans Saints for the 2008 season. He spent two seasons with the Saints, winning his only Super Bowl in the 2009 season, before finishing his career playing for two years with the New York Jets. He retired at the end of the 2011 season.

"Episcopal is an ideal fit for me and my family and I am excited about this new chapter in my life. I look forward to this opportunity to continue to build a first rate football program at Episcopal," Brunell said in the release.
